—What is the purpose of Mykonos Biennale 2023?
The purpose of the Mykonos Biennale is to awaken the true values of Mykonos through her natural beauty by refreshing the local traditions with international contemporary art evocative of the spirit of the 70s with its cool universal compassion. The theme of this year’s Biennale is the Orphic Mysteries, the sacred meaning of celebrating life. Between 27th September and 3rd October, we will repeat the biannual traditional agenda: a treasure hunt in Delos, the opening ceremony of the antidotes, “video graffiti,” a short movie projection, the “trans allegory” ball, the winemaking dance, art installations, and performances.

If something made in Mykonos has an extraordinary mountain strength, dynamic originality. The island has a powerful personality, and it imposes itself with gravity and magnetic freedom. Mykonos has this special energy beyond the beauty of its architecture, the sea, and the magical rocks. The hermetic monasteries hidden from the pirates and the thousand churches, the archeological and prehistoric sites vibrate beneath the island’s surface like another type of life.

—How does god Dionysus relate to Mykonos?
Mykonos is the grandson of Dionysus and Ariadne through their daughter Roia. Most of the ancient coins of Mykonos depict Dionysus. All the island’s Christian festivals and feasts are very paganistic; on this island, the connection between Dionysus, Adonis, and Jesus is very obvious.
